How far away is Queenstown?
Queenstown Airport (ZQN) is approximately 85 minutes drive (88km) from Mahu Whenua, and Queenstown Town Centre is approximately 95 minute’s drive from Mahu Whenua.
How can we access Mahu Whenua?
Mahu Whenua is accessible by road or by air. Please note that the access road has approximately 7km of unsealed road, and we recommend use of a 4WD vehicle if available. Guests can also access Mahu Whenua by helicopter, with multiple landing sites on the property adjacent to the Homestead Villa. The helicopter journey from Queenstown Airport is approximately 10-15 minutes flight time.
Do you cater to dietary requirements?
Yes we can cater to all dietary requirements, but we do need advance notice of any requirements, at least 48 hours prior to arrival. Our chefs love to know as much as possible about our guests in terms of dietary requirements and preferences so that we can ensure your dining experience is completely tailored to you.

What activities are included on-site at Mahu Whenua?
Mahu Whenua is the perfect place to relax and unwind or explore Wanaka – at the Homestead Villa we have a seasonal swimming pool and hot tub for guest use, as well as some marked walking trails available for guest use. We also offer an array of bespoke paid activities both on-site and off-site to really make the most of your stay. The most popular experiences include horse riding, heli hiking, Milford Sound & glacier helicopter flights and local vineyard tours.
Is the swimming pool available year-round?
As we are located in an alpine environment, the swimming pool is heated and available for use for bookings from November to April. In winter months, it is not possible to maintain a comfortable temperature. Our Spa pool is available and heated for use year-round
Can we rent the property without a chef or the hosting staff?
Mahu Whenua is only available as a full-service hosted property, and we are unable to offer rentals without our staff on site.
Can I visit the property if I am not staying there?
Mahu Whenua is a private-property in Wanaka, with access to the Homestead and grounds only available to guests.
Can I host a dinner or event?
Events are subject to approval, and permission is required for external guests to join you for dinner – additional charges would apply. We recommend enquiring directly with us to discuss your plans and we’ll be happy to provide a tailored quote.
We have more than 12 guests – can we all stay at Mahu Whenua?
We can only accommodate a maximum of 12 guests per stay, but we can help you source alternative accommodation locally for the extra guests if needed. Only guests staying at Mahu Whenua would be permitted to use the facilities of the property.
Are all alchoholic drinks included in the nightly rate?
A selection of house wines and beers are included in the nightly rate. If you wish to experience some other alternative flavours we also offer a carefully curated cellar list and a fully stocked bar, both of which are charged on consumption, and not included in the nightly rates.
