This winter, Mahu Whenua invites you to experience our Luxury Heli Ski Package, including two nights of fully-hosted accommodation at one of New Zealand’s most exclusive private villas, along with a private full-day heli ski experience tailored to your group.
Wānaka and Queenstown are renowned worldwide for their ski offerings, and Mahu Whenua sits right at the heart of it all. Tucked away in the remote high country just outside of Wānaka, the homestead is located at the doorstep of the Southern Alps, home to some of the best heli skiing terrain in New Zealand. With lift-off directly from our front lawn and access to thousands of hectares of alpine terrain and untouched powder, your heli ski experience will begin and end in effortless style.
Whether you’re planning a luxury getaway with friends or ticking off a bucket-list trip family escape, this package promises a chance to enjoy high-country luxury, warm New Zealand hospitality and a one-in-a-lifetime heli ski adventure.

Over your three-day escape, the Ridgeline Homestead will be your personal heli ski lodge. The Homestead makes for welcoming basecamp for your adventure, complete with roaring fires, thick sheepskin throws, and expansive windows with views of the surrounding snow-dusted mountains.
Upon your arrival, you’ll be greeted with a cheeseboard and refreshments and given time to relax, settle in and explore the homestead, before you’ll enjoy a locally-inspired dinner prepared by your private chef.
The next morning, fuel up with a hearty breakfast before your adventure-filled day. Your certified heli ski guide will meet you at for a full safety briefing before your helicopter touches down on the front lawn, ready to whisk you away deep into the New Zealand mountains. Depending on the conditions and your ability level, you’ll explore either the private backcountry terrain of Mahu Whenua or venture further into the dramatic peaks surrounding Wānaka and Queenstown.
You can expect long, open powder runs, gentle bowls for newer heli skiers, or more steep and technical lines for those wanting more of a challenge. With access to terrain over multiple mountain ranges, every skier or snowboarder will find their sweet spot. You’ll break for a picnic-style lunch, before heading out for more turns.
After a full day on the snow, return to the Homestead for après-ski drinks prepared by your host. Relax in the hot pool, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, and relive the highlights of the day with your group over a shared alpine-style dinner. On your final morning, enjoy a relaxed breakfast before your departure.

Do I need to be an expert skier/snowboarder?
Not at all! A strong intermediate skiing or boarding ability (you can easily ski blues and can generally ski black runs) and a sense of adventure is all you need! Your guide will tailor your day to your ability level and find you the perfect terrain, whether that’s open rolling slopes for powder first timers and more challenging chutes and verts for the more experienced!
What gear do I need?
Your own ski/board or your hire equipment, windproof jacket and pants, warm gloves, snow-quality sunglasses or goggles, a helmet and sunscreen. Our team will happily arrange the hiring of powder skis and snowboards locally if you don’t have your own.
How long are the runs?
Run length varies depending on the terrain and snow conditions, ranging from around 600 vertical metres to as much as 1300 vertical metres of skiing. Talk to us about the type of terrain you would like to ski and your guide will tailor the day to your preferences and the conditions.
What about the weather?
Here in New Zealand, Mother Nature can be unpredicatble, but rest assured if the heli ski provider cancels due to weather, a full refund will be provided on the heli ski portion of the package. In the event of a cancellation, Treble Cone is located on our doorstep and our team would be happy top organise ski passes and transfers (subject to availability). Alternatively, enjoy a slower-paced day at the Homestead, cosying up by the fireplace, relaxing in the hot pool or checking out the other local activities we have to offer.
