Mahu Whenua was made for horses and equine lovers. Our word-class open air arena and stable facilities are a sight to behold, and the extensive network of trails offer a myriad of routes to explore, whether you’re new to horse riding or an expert.
Please note, all activities are subject to availability and weather conditions. Horses are not always kept on site, and advance bookings are required. A maximum rider weight limit of 95kg applies to all horse back riding.
Exploring Mahu Whenua by horse back is an incredibly special experience, with an extensive network of custom built horse trails facilitating your adventure.
Starting at the spectacular on-site stables, you will explore the property, cross rivers, venture into beech forest or head up the valleys of this special landscape. Routes will vary based on conditions and the experience level of riders on the day, but rest assured that we love to share our corner of paradise with guests and showcase the best locations.
Our Horse Riding adventures are a fantastic opportunity to see more of the property and learn about the conservation efforts that take place whilst remaining in touch with nature.
Our guides will share a wealth of knowledge about the property as you explore and experience Mahu Whenua from this unique vantage point and encounter some hidden gems that are only accessible by horseback.
Our beautiful stable arena offers the perfect environment to encounter horses for the first time, and our Introduction to Horses experience provides an opportunity for first-timers to understand the foundations of horse interaction and beginner riding.
Our experts will work with you to build your confidence, introduce you to our horses and learn the basics of leading and saddling your horse.
The choice is then yours if you would like to go for a short ride, with a guide on hand to lead you and your horse around the beautiful open-air arena, or if you’d simply like to enjoy spending time with the horse and learning more about the these majestic animals and the custom-built facilities that Mahu Whenua offers.
Once you have grown your confidence around horses, you can discuss with our guides if you are ready to explore the property with a half day on-site horse riding excursion.
