The whole Homestead and Stables are yours, and our hosting team are here to make sure you never have to think too hard about anything. While you’re out exploring, our chefs are tracking down the finest local produce and putting together meals worth coming home to. All you need to do is show up hungry.

Wanaka in winter has a way of surprising people. There’s more to it than the ski field, alpine hikes, cellar doors, heli adventures into the backcountry but there’s also no pressure to do any of it. Some of the best days here are the slow ones, close to the fire, going nowhere in particular.

Some places you have to work a little to reach. Dusky Sound is one of them and that’s exactly what makes it so special.
Your journey begins in the air, threading through mountain ranges and remote landscapes until the fiord opens up below you. You’ll land on our private floating helipad, step aboard Sea Shadow, and leave the rest of the world behind.
Dusky Sound has that effect on people. It’s vast and raw and almost impossibly quiet, a place so isolated it can only be reached by helicopter or boat, which means the handful of people who make it here tend to leave changed by it. You can still see the tree stumps cut by Captain Cook’s crew when they sheltered here in 1773, repairing the Resolution before pressing on. History, just sitting there in the bush, unbothered.
Spend the day exploring the shoreline, taking it all in at your own pace. When hunger strikes, settle in aboard the vessel for a fully catered gourmet lunch — one of those meals you’ll find yourself describing to people for years.
And when it’s time to go, your helicopter is waiting. One last look at it all from above, before the world slowly finds you again.

Heli-skiing from Mahu Whenua is exactly as good as it sounds. Your guide picks you up right from the Homestead and whisks you off to some of the most exhilarating and barely-touched terrain in the country, whether that’s the slopes of Mahu Whenua itself, or the mountains rolling out around Wanaka and Queenstown. No lifts, no queues, no crowds. Just you, fresh snow, and as many runs as your legs can handle.
And when the day is done, you come home. Canapés waiting, drinks poured, spa steaming, the snow-capped peaks sitting right there on the horizon like they’ve been watching over you all day.
There are places in New Zealand that stop you in your tracks. Aoraki Mount Cook is one of them.
Your journey begins in the air, sweeping north over some of the most dramatic landscape the South Island has to offer, before dropping down onto the Tasman Glacier, the longest in the country, sitting quietly in the shadow of New Zealand’s highest peak. From there, you explore on foot. Winding through crevasses, past towering seracs, and into the blue ice caves that have to be seen to be believed. That colour – deep, ancient blue – is something photographs never quite do justice.
What makes this place so extraordinary is the sense of scale. You’re standing inside a living system, one that’s been moving and shifting for thousands of years. Follow it with your eyes from the high alpine summits all the way down through the icefall, past the moraines, to the waterfalls and rivers where the ice finally melts and finds its way to the sea.
