Winter at Mahu Whenua is more than cosy nights in front of the fireplace – make the most of our alpine environment and enjoy some winter sports on Wanaka’s ski fields, or access some of New Zealand’s best back country terrain and enjoy fresh tracks with a heli skiing charter.
Please note, all activities are subject to availability and weather conditions.
Heli skiing is the ultimate adventure for any snowsport enthusiast and New Zealand is home to some world-class terrain. The southern Alps are directly on our doorstep here at Mahu Whenua, and easy access leaves you with plenty of flying time to explore the slopes.
Treat the Ridgeline Homestead as your heli-skiing lodge for your winter getaway!
Your mountain guide will pick you up from the front lawn of the Homestead in a helicopter to take you skiing or snowboarding on the barely explored slopes of Mahu Whenua or the nearby mountains around Wanaka and Queenstown.
Come back after a day in the snow to après canapés and drinks prepared by Mahu Whenua chef and soak in the spa surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
The border of Mahu Whenua touches on three ski resorts – Treble Cone, Cardrona and Coronet Peak, with Snow Farm (a cross country ski area) also close by. Treble Cone is 25 minutes drive from the homestead and Cardrona is 50 minutes drive away. Alternatively, a very short helicopter transfer will find you on the slopes in no time!
All ski areas have options to take lessons with experienced instructors and have great facilities for families. We can arrange for rental equipment and clothing to be fitted for you at the Homestead so that you don’t have to fight the crowds in town or on the mountains.
Please enquire about our ski concierge service for a luxurious transfer to the mountain, and a guide to show you around the base building and orientate you on the slopes.
